Our Story

puy
redon

Puy Redon was constructed in 1740 as a Manoir house, occupied by the same family for over 200 years and run as a working farm until it’s sale in 1928.

The house changed hands several times, gradually moving away from agricultural use until 1999 when Puy Redon was purchased firstly and most importantly, as a family home by sympathetic owners who wished to preserve this special parcel of South West France. The unique situation of the property with 360 degree views over the Montbazillac region, enchanted the owners and the name itself, Puy translating as ‘Hill’ pays homage to the spectacular site.

The owning family are passionate lovers of wines of the Côte d’Or, and held a distant dream to one day express the beauty of the region through a Chardonnay, not at all the ‘cépage’ of the region.

After several years, encouraged by friends, and after careful consideration, the family commissioned the first vineyard tests in 2008. The results were as the family could only have dreamed of – Puy Redon was perfect for the varietal, confirmed by another specialist and planting began at Puy Redon.

The vineyard was meticulously planted and planned using satellite technology, all under the watchful eye of an expert from a St Emilion First Growth house.

Some two harvests after the vines were in the ground, the owners became friends with Monsieur Hubert de Boüard de Laforet of Angelus, who upon seeing the intelligent mapping of the vineyard, well situated site, and limestone rich soil – knew that this Terroir could maybe yield a good Chardonnay, a varietal he always wanted to work with.

Henceforth – Domaine Puy Redon was born
